First-year students of the History Department of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) visited the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Anthropology Laboratory under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şükrü ÜNAR as part of the Introduction to Archaeology I and Ancient History I courses.

The visit, aimed at supporting educational activities with practical studies and enabling students to closely understand interdisciplinary research methods, provided students with information about the fields of study of anthropology, research methods, and their relationship with archaeological research.

During the visit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet İhsan AYTEK provided comprehensive information to the students about the studies conducted in anthropology, particularly in the fields of physical anthropology and biological anthropology. Topics such as the examination of human skeletal remains, osteological analysis methods, determining the biological characteristics of past societies, and the evaluation of this data in archaeological and historical research were emphasized. Additionally, the contributions of scientific studies conducted in the laboratory and anthropological data to understanding the lifestyles, health conditions, eating habits, and demographic structures of past societies were discussed through examples.

While students had the opportunity to closely observe the laboratory environment and the methods used in scientific research, they also gained insight into the importance of scientific collaboration between the disciplines of archaeology, history, and anthropology.

This academic visit aims to help students reinforce the knowledge they acquire in theoretical courses with practical observations and understand the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in researching past societies.
