"Waterless Agriculture: National Security and Social Responsibility Project" Conference Held

The Department of Sociology and the Sociology Community organized an event on October 4, 2024, to draw attention to one of today's most important issues, sustainable agriculture and the water crisis. Dr. Ece Aynur Onur, who participated as a speaker at the conference titled "Waterless Agriculture: National Security and Social Responsibility Project", won a Fulbright scholarship and completed her master's and doctorate in military anthropology in the USA; she received the Educator of the Year and Promising Educator of the Year awards in America. Leaving her academic career, Dr. Ece Aynur Onur returned to her hometown Burdur and started working on waterless agriculture. In her own established farm, she both provides employment to women in the region and tries to spread sustainable agriculture methods.
Throughout the conference, Dr. Onur addressed how waterless agriculture methods can revolutionize agricultural production, the effects of climate change and water scarcity, the risks it poses in terms of national security, and the dimensions of social responsibility. Dr. Onur, particularly highlighting the relationship between national security and agricultural sustainability, explained how increasing drought and the reduction of water resources can affect the economic and social balances of countries. The conference, held with the participation of students and academics, ended with a question-and-answer session, providing participants the opportunity to learn more about the future potential of waterless agriculture.
