As part of the IVSA Burdur One Health Summit organized by our University’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, a conference titled “The Negative Effects of Tourism on the Environment and Animal Husbandry in the Plateaus of Eastern Black Sea” was held by our department's faculty member Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Uğur TOZKOPARAN.
During the conference, the effects of rapidly developing tourism activities in the plateaus of Eastern Black Sea in recent years on the environment, traditional plateau culture, and animal husbandry were evaluated within the framework of the One Health approach. The presentation particularly addressed issues such as increasing construction in the plateaus, second homes, solid and liquid waste problems, the shrinking of pasture areas, and the decline in traditional animal husbandry activities.
In the conference where findings from field studies conducted in the plateaus of Çorak Village in Gümüşhane province were shared, the transformation process of plateaus from production areas to consumption areas was examined in detail. It was emphasized that the unplanned development of tourism activities creates significant pressures on the natural environment, animal health, and rural living culture.
Throughout the conference, students and participants showed great interest in the topic by asking questions about the sustainability of plateau tourism, environmental protection policies, and the future of traditional plateau culture.
At the end of the program, the IVSA Burdur officials thanked Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Uğur TOZKOPARAN for his contributions.
