Yapılış Tarihi | 15 April 2026, Wednesday
As part of the TÜBİTAK Science Talks program, Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Geography Department faculty member Dr. Onur YAYLA met with students at Antalya Finike Cumhuriyet Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School. In the talk, the topics of mass movements, climate changes, and floods were addressed from a geographical perspective.
During the event, the conditions under which natural processes turn into disasters, the effects of climate change on the environment, and the main factors increasing flood risk were conveyed to the students within a scientific framework. The relationship between climate change, which has been felt more prominently in recent years in areas sensitive to natural disasters like Finike and Kumluca, and extreme weather events, floods, and inundations was particularly emphasized. Additionally, the causes of mass movements and the effects of these processes on the natural environment and human life were explained with examples from the local surroundings.
In his speech, Dr. Onur YAYLA emphasized that geography is not only a discipline that examines landforms and the natural environment; it is also an important scientific field in understanding human and nature interaction, assessing environmental risks, and developing solutions to mitigate these risks. The program, which students followed with interest, continued with a question-and-answer session.
The event held as part of the TÜBİTAK Science Talks, which aims to bring scientific knowledge to the public, contributed to increasing students' environmental awareness and raising their consciousness about potential natural disasters in their living environment.
