Yayın Tarihi | 02 August 2024, Friday

Our Faculty Dean and History Department Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Sevilay ÖZER, emphasized the importance of the Çanakkale front on the 109th anniversary of the Çanakkale Wars.  Çanakkale was one of the fronts where the Allied Powers and the Ottoman Empire fought during World War I. Beyond that, the Çanakkale Wars are both a historical turning point and one of the significant developments that affected world history. The positive outcome achieved under the circumstances reached a dimension that far exceeded the scope of a defensive war, shaking and changing world balances not only in terms of the defended region and country but also globally. Its effects were seen in many areas, not just in one field, but politically, socially, culturally, and economically.

Emphasizing that the Çanakkale Wars had two phases, naval and land, and the importance of this, Prof. Dr. ÖZER concluded her speech by saying, "We commemorate Gazi Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK and his comrades-in-arms, our commanders and soldiers who sacrificed their lives to defend the homeland soil, with mercy and gratitude." Following our Dean's speech, a documentary about the Çanakkale Wars was watched, and after visiting the exhibition about books on the Çanakkale Wars, the event ended.
