Organized by the MAKÜ Faculty of Arts and Sciences History Department, within the scope of the "Faculty of Arts and Sciences conferences" event, Prof. Dr. Ema Miljković from the University of Belgrade gave a conference themed "The Image of the Ottoman Empire in Serbia." In the conference, which attracted great interest, Prof. Dr. Miljković talked about the Ottoman Empire's construction activities in Serbia, its impact on Serbian culture with examples, and then touched upon the perception of the Ottoman Empire in Serbia. Prof. Dr. Miljković expressed the Ottoman studies and perspective in Serbia with the following words: "It is necessary to point out an important aspect. Serbian historiography, at least in the last thirty years, has been drawing a quite objective picture of the Ottoman Empire, and this picture is based on Ottoman sources. The main topics are naturally those related to Serbian national history, and social history has been the most researched topic. However, the information about the Ottoman Empire in the public and schools is insufficient. Only one lesson is allocated to the six-century history of the Empire in schools. Even in the curricula of the history departments of the six universities in Serbia, the Ottoman topic is not sufficiently covered. The best center for Ottoman studies in Serbia is the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade. We collaborate with the Faculty of Philosophy, the History Department, and the Institute of History to train researchers in Ottoman studies."
Prof. Dr. Miljković concluded her speech with the words, "Moreover, we can say that the results of historiography are not sufficiently disseminated. This remains one of the future tasks." Answering questions from students in the Q&A session, Prof. Dr. Miljković created a bridge for academic cooperation between Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University and the University of Belgrade.
