GENERAL INFORMATION
Sociology; in its broadest definition, is a comprehensive scientific field that deals with human life. Sociology examines social life, the social causes and consequences of human behaviors, the actions and relationships that individuals exhibit within the scope of social life in all aspects. While sociology examines how individuals are affected by society and other individuals/institutions they communicate with, it also considers the extent to which individuals influence society and other individuals/institutions. Today, sociology is increasingly gaining importance. The main reason for this is the rapid change and complexity of all socio-economic and spatial processes related to humans and society. Sociology, on the one hand, addresses the changes that occur in social structures and the institutions and relationships that form these structures, and on the other hand, examines phenomena such as family, economy, politics, culture, education, violence, media, law, health, music, sports, gender, race, and ethnicity in a social context. While these phenomena can be perceived differently on an individual level, they can also carry different social characteristics on local, regional, national, and global levels. In the broadest sense, sociology systematically and scientifically addresses all processes related to social life. In this sense, differences in social dynamics can be observed both throughout Turkey and in the Western Mediterranean Region and the city of Burdur, where Mehmet Akif Ersoy University is located. In this context, there is a significant need for qualified human resources trained in the discipline of sociology to analyze social differences and experiences at the local level of Burdur city, regionally, nationally, and even globally. Therefore, increasing the number of programs that will provide scientific sociology education is of great importance. The main aim of the sociology department is to train sociologists who can contribute to scientific studies being conducted in the world and our country, equipped with qualified knowledge, able to read the interactions between people, make determinations about the problems of their country and region, seek solutions, have analytical thinking skills, recognize current technologies and apply them to scientific studies, evaluate individual and social problems in a multidimensional framework, and analyze the problems of the society they live in and other societies in general with a sociological perspective. Our department's undergraduate education aims to provide students with sufficient theoretical and practical infrastructure to conduct research and find answers to problems, in addition to granting them a bachelor's degree, group work, and analytical thinking skills.
