GENERAL INFORMATION

History
The Philosophy Department was established in 2016 within the Faculty of Science and Letters. It aims to admit students in the 2017-2018 academic year.

Job Description and Employment Areas
Students who graduate from the philosophy department receive the title of "philosopher." In the field of philosophy, which is related to almost every area of the academic world and whose contribution to the birth of basic sciences is generally accepted worldwide, the goal is to train individuals who have habits of continuous learning and questioning, possess analytical thinking skills, can not only follow the international literature up-to-date but also contribute to it at the highest level, are open to new theories, sensitive to all kinds of social, individual, and cultural problems, and have adopted critical and rational thinking as a method in every field by organizing undergraduate and graduate education at an international level with an interdisciplinary approach. Philosophy graduates can find opportunities to work in various fields. With the skills they acquire in questioning, analyzing, comprehensive thinking, and writing explanatory and convincing texts, graduates can find jobs in public institutions and organizations, in the private sector in areas that require general culture or creativity. If they obtain teaching certificates, they have the opportunity to become philosophy and logic teachers or, provided they pursue postgraduate philosophy education, academicians.

Graduates can pursue an academic career by obtaining pedagogical formation and working as Philosophy Group Teachers and Guidance and Psychological Counseling in secondary education institutions or private educational institutions, or by obtaining a master's degree with thesis and doctorate education. With the philosophical perspective they gain in line with their personal development, they can also turn to other professions such as public relations, advertising, copywriting, editing in written and visual media, criticism, and translation depending on their level of foreign language proficiency.

Mission-Vision

The aim of the philosophy department is to train graduates who, equipped with the knowledge of the history of philosophy, can recognize the fundamental problem areas of philosophy, think abstractly, and thus approach the cultural, social, and ethical problems of our time with a philosophical perspective, who criticize, ask questions, do not settle with problems but research and carry a sense of responsibility. It is to ensure that the field of philosophy, which is related to almost every area of the scientific world, especially social sciences, and whose contribution to the birth of basic sciences is generally accepted worldwide, gains a more active position in our country with an interdisciplinary approach. There is a need for competent experts, researchers, and academicians who can contribute to the tradition of critical thinking that has developed along with academic progress in Turkey, and who have the technical equipment to analyze international and local sources in the field of philosophy. It is also expected that these researchers contribute to international publications, develop the tradition of philosophy in Turkey with an interdisciplinary approach, and carry it forward. For this, it is essential to be a department that offers a holistic perspective where resources can be addressed with interdisciplinary work, in an environment where different perspectives can be developed both with researchers from different disciplines and within the same discipline.
